How We Review Products at KitchePicks

KitchePicks helps home cooks choose kitchen products. This page explains how our guides are put together, what we do and don’t claim, and how we make money, so you can judge our recommendations for yourself.
What our guides are based on
Our buying guides and reviews are research-based. For each guide we:
- Choose products people can actually buy, using retailer availability, owner feedback and expert recommendations.
- Compare independent evidence, such as lab tests and hands-on tests from established publications, along with manufacturer specifications and owner reviews.
- Cross-check the facts. When sources disagree about capacity, power, materials or price, we say so instead of guessing.
- Name our sources. When we rely on another outlet’s test results, the guide credits and links to them.
- Explain the trade-offs: who each product suits, who should skip it, and what to check before you buy.
When we test a product ourselves
If we have personally used a product, the guide says so and describes what we did, with our own photos or measurements. If a guide doesn’t say we tested a product, assume we haven’t, and that our assessment comes from the research described above.
What we look at
- Performance: does it do its main job well, according to the best available testing?
- Ease of use and cleaning: is it practical for everyday cooking?
- Safety and durability: how hot does it get, how is it built, and what do owners report after months of use?
- Materials: what actually touches your food, including any coatings.
- Value: is the performance worth the price compared with the alternatives?
Instead of inventing numeric scores, we label our picks (for example Best Overall, Best Value or Best for Small Kitchens) and explain our reasoning. When we quote a score, it belongs to the outlet that produced it.
Claims like “non-toxic” and “PFAS-free”
Marketing terms such as “non-toxic” have no single legal definition for cookware. We look at what the maker discloses and what independent testers report, and we say when a coating’s full formula isn’t published. A product can have a glass or stainless steel body and still have a coated surface where your food sits, so we describe which parts actually touch the food.
Prices and availability
Prices and stock change often. Unless a guide says otherwise, any price we mention is an approximate list price, so check the retailer for the current price.
